deviant art premium content -sell your content...thoughts :D

how will this change things? well for most people it really wont ...i mean let's be honest a lot of people on deviant are just there for the joy of sharing their art..and a larger number of people frankly wont be able to sell things digitally(i mean the quality simply wont be there). but what about the top tier deviants...one suspects they will have most of their galleries as 'premium content'-which seems like a mean thing to do -but it's actually pretty cool. if you like an artist...support them . im not sure how i will handle this on my gallery-on a trial basis maybe i'll try say once a week or on some of my sketches that i really like. i don't think this will impact me a great deal but it is an interesting opportunity...and i think an excellent idea. thoughts...discussion...ensue .

and it does lead to further questions...which does go back to my 'where do your post your art thread'-if it's digital on deviant then posting it elsewhere for free would obviously be out of the question. i mean perhaps you could just post portions of a piece or super low resolutions versions on other sites with links back to your deviant premium page. how could i see it working? well pages seem to be a natural fit for premium content-make the first few pages free then charge for the rest.
to limiting artist's galleries...lets be honest the pros already limit(with the exception of pages which they typically offer high res...because they are interested in selling the original art :buttrock) their galleries....not only with how much they post but with sizing(low resolution images are the norm in the big hitters galleries...i think this was to tease the print market out a bit). for me it doesn't limit what i see on deviant...i don't use it that way too much anymore-i might cruise a gallery or two on occassion but i i find myself swamped in art from people i follow now anyway...too much for me to make any sense of it except by luck(oh hey that looks super cool ill check it out).
further ramifications(again this is all speculation...things might turn out completely different )-i think you may find if galleries shrink/go premium that watchers/visitors might broaden their own searches-what the hell does that mean selkirk? more hits for the second and third tier artists. i view the premium content move as entirely positive...can't really think of anything that is bad about it(90% revenue share would be better of course ).

@idolsheperd i think it's going to be interesting how this evolves...i can see for instance sets of stock photos/nudes/comic pages being bundled into premium content-these would seem to be organic fits for a 'premium model'. as it develops i can also see this(at least on a micro level) replacing/augmenting kickstarter projects.and i have no problem with deviant making a buck-i love the site...i love what they do and what they offer in terms of community. one can also see this as a way to make the commission process more open/friendly-if one is willing to take the 20% haircut .
