ok well as you guys may or may not know i pretty much draw all the time :D-anyways i got involved in this group on deviant art called fantasy life drawing http://fantasy-life-...deviantart.com/ . so basically the format is a topic/theme each month and once all of the drawings are submitted http://spiritedfool.deviantart.com/ does drawovers and makes suggestions for improvements.

what makes this cool? well its always interesting to me to get different perspectives on your own work but what i found really cool is the range of techniques he uses for the drawovers-also for each sketch you get a cool you tube video showing spirited fool at work on your art. if you have some time or just an interest in fantasy art do check it out.

loving the smudging technique he uses-i have never seen and obviously never done :D this type of thing before...really does add some cool effects.

you tube suggestion videos for my sketch:

notes- here is my original sketch:

Very cool. Thank you for sharing this I will check more about this guy and see how he handles others work as well.

I use a varied approach to this smudging but I am a lot messier and I probably lose a lot of my original lines with my technique it pretty much works the same way but I take it a step further I think than at least how he handled in these couple videos.

I will actually shade across say an arm, and rub with my finger and use a fine tipped eraser to bring out edges and veins and then go back in and work more details in the areas these new highlights created. It gives the image an extra dimension and looks less 'flat.' I will also work with the negative shapes this process creates to give an extra element of texture as well when I ink which I find pretty fun.

yeah man if interested...join up with group next challenge(should be posted soon). i really did find it interesting to see someone else go over my sketch-the observations and things you don't see while working on your own sketch prove to be really interesting.

and like i said it was very enjoyable to see spirited fool go to work-i mean i use basic tools(blue line mechanical pencil/finished with hb mechanical pencil)...it was awesome to see the range of tools he uses. and im going to surf your gallery skeleton to check out more of your technique :buttrock:.
