Hendercrazy Inking Tutorial at the Forum

by Eric Goff ~ November 30th, 2008

I just wanted to spotlight this awesome thread over at the Outcast Studios Forums where forum member Hendercrazy took a drawing from fellow forum member Sweattshop and did an indepth tutorial on his inking process for everyone to follow along with.  Super cool thread.  These types of things pop up all the time at the message board.  Just shows how cool it is to be a member.

How to Draw Convincing Rocks Tutorial

by Eric Goff ~ November 23rd, 2008

I was browsing over at Pencil Jack, the other (too big for it’s own good) comic creator forum and came across a great post from Loston Wallace.  He did a little tutorial on Rendering Rocks.  CHECK IT OUT HERE!

Loston always has a way of breaking down some of the more complicated problems a comic artist will face and makes it easy to understand. In the past he allowed me to add another of his tutorials to the Outcast Studios Wiki.  Check out that tutorial as well if you haven’t already.  Hair Highlights Tutorial by Loston Wallace

I Can Draw Better Than You (and I’ll prove it)

by Eric Goff ~ November 3rd, 2008

What?  Yeah you read that right.  I CAN DRAW BETTER THAN YOU!

Sure that’s a loaded statement.  Who am I referring to?  In what sense do I mean better?  Let me be absolutely clear here by answering those questions and any others you might have.

Who am I referring to? I’m talking to you.  You know the one reading this post right this second.  I don’t know your name or maybe I do (but I can’t see you right now so how can I know your reading?).  If there are more then one of you reading this post simultanously then congradulations for having a real living breathing human being who’s willing to spend any time, with your sorry , internet addicted ass.  Oh and in those rare cases I’m talking to both of you jackasses.

In what sense do I mean better? In every sense of the FuckING word.  I’m not trying to split hairs with you because I know your a numbskull.  In any aspect of drawing that I could possibly be better than you consider yoursel(ves)f competing for second place.  “But Eric I only draw for my own self satisfaction and the pursuit of all that is beautiful.”  First go fuck yourself,  then realize I could do that better than you with my arms tied behind my back, while your mother gives me…. well you get the idea.

Over the 9 years or so running Outcast Studios I’ve been trying to help people to realize their full potential.  Some need more help than others.  The Outcast Studios Forums have always been about connecting artists with their peers to share their knowledge and insight.  The Wiki is a more recent addition to the Outcast Studios fold.  It’s unlimited potential, like most artists who cross by these php pages,  wasted in the emptiness that is their own failure.

What does this all have to do with anything at all?  Sorry I’m getting off track here.  For sometime I’ve realized that within myself I have the power to be the best artist on the entire planet.  The only thing holding me back is that I rarely ever try to draw these days.  I think mostly because I knew the end result would be devastating to the art community.  Every thing would pale in comparison to a Goff master piece.  My rates would be so low becuase I can draw so fast that other artists would just have to give up.  There wouldn’t be  a single job on the planet I couldn’t do under budget, under deadline, and completely badass.

Then today I realized that I’m being completely selfish.  When I thought about it more I began to see if I employed a certain strategy I could create a whirlwind of inspiration that would touch the life of these artists giving them hope that they too one day could reach my level of skill.  This hope, this longing, this belief in themselves could fuel their careers for years to come.  BUT I have to be really careful with this.  I can’t be too good for too long or that hope will fade into history, crippling the art community for eons and eons until another chosen one person of my skill comes along.

So to get this ball rolling I wanted to announce to the world that on this day, I, Eric Goff do hereby set my mind to reaching my full potential knowing full well the risk I myself pose to the entire world.  With these risks being so grave,  I’ve set a deadline for the worlds exposure to my awesomeness of 1 year at which time I will reassess the damage I’ve inflicted upon my people and determine any further course of action.

I intend to do this openly in plain view of the public so that if the world does go to the brink of destruction, hopefully, one day someone in a full body suit of protective clothing will find my hard drive and know the truth.  There will be numerous places along the way for you to witness my rebirth.

I will be participating in the Daily Sketch Challenge in the Artwork Forum of Outcast Studios monday-friday.  On the weekends I plan to do some life drawings of some Naked Ladies starting Nov 8th in the Members Only Section at Outcast Studios . If you haven’t registered at Outcast Studios Forum you’ll need to soon, or your sure to miss out on my awkward stage in this pursuit.  Occasionally I’ll be dropping some knowledge in the Outcast Studios Wiki as another way for people in the future to discover the secret to perfect artistic skill levels.  Your welcome to add your own insight as well, and I’ll be happy to correct anything that you fuck up on.

Boys and Girls, the world is changing, enjoy the ride.  I’m sure some of you will have questions or silly little comments so feel free to reply to this post.

Draw, Draw, Draw, and then Draw More

by Eric Goff ~ October 29th, 2008

Hyperjack over at the Outcast Studios forum was kind enough to start up another daily sketch challenge and it just started today. You may be too late to get in on the Spider-man thread but be sure to keep checking the Artwork Section on the message board Hyperjack will pin a new topic to the top of the Artwork Forum everyday Monday-Friday and then you have usually just about 24 hours to post before the thread gets locked down.

So if you call yourself an artist or hope to one day then you owe it to yourself to spend 30mins a day sketching and what better way to get motivated than to join a bunch of your peers in a fun activity.

Speak of the Devil

by Eric Goff ~ October 26th, 2008

Just as I was blogging below about Eric Canete and his process drawing, rqatkins (one of our regular pros) posted a lengthy behind the scenes/ thought process about a GI JOE page he had posted earlier in the forum. So Check it out: http://outcaststudios.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6783

Eric Canete Step by Step

by Eric Goff ~ October 26th, 2008

I know some of you have been wondering about what exactly this blog will have.  Well among other things I plan to point out cool stuff I’ve found on the internets that I think will help the aspiring artists that frequent our web-site.

Case in Point:

I found this (link at bottom) over at Eric Canete’s blog yesterday.  He posted it quite awhile ago and I don’t know how I missed it.  He goes through his typical process of going from script to final page.  This page in particular is from Iron Man: ETM #6.  Beyond being a badass page to see from blue line to ink there’s some interesting insight into Eric’s thought process.  The reasoning for his use of borders really struck a cord with me and I think it is so important  (especially for those of us without Eric’s skill level) when starting into sequential work.   It’s by no means in depth but it’s a fun read.

Nude or Prude?

by Eric Goff ~ October 26th, 2008

Well there’s a new poll over at the message board about Nudity on the forum.  We’re thinking of allowing nudity in art posts as well as posting nude pictures to use for community drawing events and I wish I could say that it’s a heated debate but so far 3 people have admitted they’re addicted to porn and 4 others conviently think it would be ok for Outcast Studios to show some skin every now and again.

There’s no doubt that the nude human figure is beneficial to an artist for the sake of jerking drawing but are we ready to let the this super taboo NUDITY loose on the forums?
